The FBI executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at a Washington Post reporter\u2019s home as part of an investigation into a government contractor accused of illegally retaining classified government materials.<\/p>\n

The reporter, Hannah Natanson, was at her home in Virginia at the time of the search. Federal agents searched her home and her devices, seizing her phone, two laptops and a Garmin watch. One of the laptops was her personal computer, the other a Washington Post-issued laptop.<\/p>\n

Investigators told Natanson that she is not the focus of the probe. The warrant said that law enforcement was investigating Aurelio Perez-Lugones, a system administrator in Maryland who has a top secret security clearance and has been accused of accessing and taking home classified intelligence reports that were found in his lunchbox and his basement, according to an FBI affidavit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kash Patel\u2019s tenure as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been marked by high-profile gaffes. Patel, whom the Daily Beast has nicknamed \u2018Keystone Kash\u2019 for his bungling performance, was criticized for rushing to social media to tout his agency\u2019s work on tracking down a person of interest in the Charlie Kirk shooting prematurely.<\/p>\n

After the shooting, Patel reportedly refused to get off a plane without an FBI raid jacket and ended up wearing one nabbed from a female officer. He reportedly decorated it with patches from other agents.<\/p>\n

A scathing 115-page report compiled by a national alliance of retired and active-duty FBI special agents and analysts declared that Patel is \u201cin over his head\u201d and leading a \u201cchronically under-performing\u201d agency paralyzed by fear and plummeting morale.<\/p>\n

Trump has a particular vendetta against the Post. Before he was elected in 2024, he warned the paper \u201cought to clean up their act.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
