The story continues to dominate the news – despite other major stories having emerged. Here’s the 101:
As usual, Guardian has the best live news ticker on the continuing mess, leading with the UN human rights office saying it is “clear” the US raid on Venezuela “undermined a fundamental principle of international law”. Anadolu Ajansi News takes a deep dive into that development.
It looks like Venezuela may be just the start: “Trump team puts a target on Cuba, with threats and oil blockade“. Stephen Miller is ramping up Trump threats to take over Greenland. Thankfully, Congress has started to take Trump’s interest in Greenland more seriously. And Colombia’s president is pushing back against Trump’s threats against his nation.
On Capitol Hill, “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), along with Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) are forcing a vote on a War Powers Resolution that aims to bar President Donald Trump from taking more military action in Venezuela without Congress’ approval.”
NBC exposes the latest dodge to line the oil-igarch’s pockets: Trump says the U.S. government may reimburse oil companies for rebuilding Venezuela’s infrastructure. Naturally, Trump has left his own party’s legislators in the dark on any “plan” to run Venezuela.
The NY Times reports that “US intelligence suggested María Corina Machado, Venezuela’s opposition leader, would struggle to lead the government. But her relationship with Trump officials had been souring for months.”
And, naturally, Trump has to run his mouth – and this morning, he may have blown up th Maduro case in a private chat with Morning Joe.

Media Matters: “MAGA media link Trump’s overthrow of Maduro to 2020 election conspiracy theories”
And for some comic relief: Trump was hit with another community note after making a false claim about Greenland during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One while returning to the White House following a 16-day stay at Mar-a-Lago.
