Donald Trump claimed overnight that the United States carried out airstrikes in Venezuela and “captured” President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, following a series of explosions and fires reported around Caracas. During a news conference in the late morning, Trump declared, ‘We are going to run the country‘, declaring US control over Venezuela, and will be ‘strongly involved’ in Venezuela’s oil industry.

Trump posted an image of captured Maduro on Truth Social mid-morning – which crashed minutes later. Trump also celebrated the capture of Maduro in a phone interview with The New York Times.
